Real Zero is a charity-funded non-profit organisation which seeks to catalyse social and economic change to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the pace and scale required. Our primary focus is on moving the health economy to leverage that change.

Located in Central London, we partner with organisations and individuals across the National Health Service, private healthcare providers, representative organisations, charities and businesses to cut scope 1 & 2 emissions through renewable energy deployment/power purchase agreements [PPAs], improved buildings and estates efficiency, and banking/ finance. We also target scope 3 emissions, especially those related to supply chains, procurement and also food. Our approach combines education, action, and collaboration to create meaningful change.
Most of us are tired of hearing about the scale of the problem, without knowing the solutions.
We provide a set of clear ACTIONS which we can all take to reduce scope 1 - 3 emissions, and to catalyse the change we need.
Scope 1 emissions are those from you/ your organisation directly burning fossil fuels - gas in boilers, petrol/diesel in engines in cars.
EXAMPLE ACTIONS: replace with electric power from 100% renewable resources; reduce use by air source heat pumps/ driving less
Scope 2 emissions are those from purchased power.
EXAMPLE ACTIONS: change to a 100% renewable power supplier; install renewable power generation (e.g. solar cells); organisations can use Power Purchase Agreements and improve building energy efficiency.

Scope 3 emissions are those from the activity you 'make happen' or the products and services you buy.
EXAMPLE ACTIONS: We can all 'buy less and better'; health systems can work to prevent disease, avoid unnecessary tests and interventions, minimise patient visits, and make pathways lean and efficient. Contracts must mandate companies to commit to 'real' emission reductions and timescales to do so. Move to local, seasonal, plant-based diets. Move to banks that don't fund fossil fuel extraction, and move investments.
