Climate change is no longer a future threat. It is a growing public health emergency. In 2023, human-caused greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions surpassed the equivalent of 54 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2e), trapping the heat equivalent of eight Hiroshima bombs every second.

Without urgent intervention, the ecosystems and core societal foundations upon which we depend- such as healthcare provision, food systems, and economies- face collapse within our lifetimes. Yet emissions continue to rise, and the window for action is closing fast.

Our Treatment Plan

Healthcare is responsible for 5.2% of global emissions; but represents 10–12% of global GDP and directly employs over 150 million people. The figures are far greater if supply chains, and social care and consumer healthcare are included. Its mission is to save lives, which makes the healthcare sector uniquely positioned to lead bold climate action. Real Zero leverages this unique position to:

→     Shift capital away from high-emission industries toward real-zero solutions

→     Provide institutions with roadmaps and options for cutting emissions—fast

→     Embed climate action directly into procurement, finance, food, and operations

→     Mobilise clinicians, scientists, and healthcare leaders as trusted messengers
